As a mindfulness educator, I’m trying to reach as many students as I can by offering my service wherever there is an “open door”. I already teach mindfulness to my 4th grade students, and I have been teaching this to my own homeroom class for 5 years, but now I’m trying to take some risks with it and try new things.
I recently approached our 2nd grade teachers (who welcomed me with open arms) and took the leap to teach all three classes at the same time over the next several weeks. Well, this happened yesterday. And, guess what? It was AWESOME! I loved it!
So, this is where my own practice comes in. All thoughts, feelings, and emotions were welcome. I felt present in the experience and as a result I can’t wait to do it again. This is where it begins with this group in particular. It’s not always like this and the trick is to welcome all the experiences that this brings. After all, I have to practice mindfulness to genuinely teach it or else it’s just content delivery. (Definitely more on this later).
So, here is a place where genuine and honest experiences of doing my best to live, teach, parent, etc. mindfully will be on display to hopefully connect with others who are doing the same.
